Terms of Use
Effective 4 July 2026
1. Agreement and eligibility
These Terms govern the Margin mobile application and related services operated by Margin Learning (“Margin”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using Margin, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. Margin is an educational service for school learners of varying ages.
If you are a minor, you may use Margin only with the prior permission, authorisation and supervision of a parent, legal guardian or your school, who accepts these Terms and the Privacy Policy on your behalf where your jurisdiction requires it and remains responsible for that supervision.
2. The service
Margin organises schoolwork and can generate explanations, summaries, practice material and feedback. Features and monthly limits depend on the plan displayed in the app. A limited free demo may be available before paid access is required.
Automated output can be incomplete or wrong. Check important answers with a teacher, textbook or trusted source. Margin is a study aid, not a teacher, examination authority or professional adviser.
3. Artificial intelligence disclosure
Margin uses artificial intelligence (AI) to generate explanations, summaries, analyses, practice material, marking feedback, chat responses and similar study assistance. Content produced by these features is generated by automated models, not by a human teacher or reviewer, and the app identifies AI-assisted features where practical. This disclosure is made in line with consumer-protection guidance on AI transparency, including that of the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
AI-generated output may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or biased, and can differ for the same input. It is not professional, medical, legal, financial or examination advice, and Margin makes no claim that AI output is equivalent to review by a qualified human. Always verify important results with your teacher, textbook or another trusted source before relying on them.
4. Accounts and security
Keep your credentials and device secure and notify support@mrgn.co.za promptly about suspected unauthorised access. Phone numbers are saved as verified account information only after successful SMS verification. You may not impersonate others, evade limits, interfere with the service, probe security or use Margin unlawfully.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of schoolwork, images, documents, notes and prompts you submit. You give Margin a limited licence to host, process, transmit and reproduce that content only as needed to operate and secure the requested features. Upload only content you may lawfully use, and do not upload another person’s personal information without an appropriate lawful basis and consent.
6. Subscriptions and payment
Subscriptions are purchased through Apple’s App Store. The Apple purchase sheet shows the final price and billing period. Eligible new subscribers may receive a 3-day free trial. After any free trial, Apple charges your Apple Account for the subscription unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple charges renewal within 24 hours before that period ends. Manage or cancel in iOS Settings > your name > Subscriptions. Deleting Margin or your Margin account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Apple handles refunds and billing disputes under App Store rules.
7. Acceptable educational use
Do not use Margin to cheat, submit automated output as your own where prohibited, or violate school or examination rules. You remain responsible for checking facts, calculations and citations.
8. Availability and changes
We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service. We may maintain, improve, suspend or discontinue features and update limits or prices prospectively. Material changes will be communicated where reasonably possible.
9. Suspension and deletion
We may restrict accounts used fraudulently, abusively or unlawfully. Delete your account in Account > Delete account. Data is deleted or de-identified subject to limited legal, security, transaction and backup retention described in the Privacy Policy.
10. Liability and law
To the extent permitted by law, Margin is provided “as is”. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, reliance on automated output, or events outside our reasonable control. Nothing excludes rights or liability that South African law does not permit us to exclude. These Terms are governed by South African law. Disputes are resolved as set out in section 11.
11. Dispute resolution and binding arbitration
Before starting any formal proceedings, you agree to first contact support@mrgn.co.za with a description of the dispute so that we can try to resolve it informally. We will attempt this informal resolution for at least 30 days from your first message.
If a dispute is not resolved informally, you and Margin agree that it will be finally resolved by binding arbitration administered by the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA) under its rules, before a single arbitrator, conducted in English. The seat of the arbitration is South Africa, and hearings may be held remotely (by video or on written submissions) where appropriate. Judgment on the arbitration award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction.
Disputes must be brought in your individual capacity only, and not as a claimant or class member in any class, consolidated or representative proceeding, to the extent this waiver is permitted by applicable law. This section does not remove protections that mandatorily apply to you under the South African Consumer Protection Act or other law that cannot be waived, does not prevent either party from seeking urgent interim relief from a competent court, and does not apply where applicable law gives you a non-waivable right to bring a claim in court, including a small-claims process.
